    Hi Tracy.
Just to say I absolute love your blog and always look forward to your tips. It’s the highlight of my email inbox!
I am a speech and language therapy student in the UK. I’d love to work with children or teens with autism when I graduate.
I was wondering if you could give some advice about where you’d start with a 2+ year old who has not yet said any words, is not canonical babbling or imitating. Just what kind of games/toys/language to use with a child who hasn’t yet said a single word but is otherwise developing typically.
    Thank you!

    • Thank you! Your comment made me smile! I am so glad you are enjoying my posts. And, that is a great question! When working with the little ones I am typically inclined to start with what they gravitate towards. What does the child play with? What interests that child? Then, I would take a gander at my toy selection and the family’s toy selection and pull items from there. I am ecclectic therapist and prefer to use a variety of strategies with increased use of what the child may be interested in. Pictures, signs, visual cues are options that I explore paired with some preferred items. If you caught my post on the “Red Box”, Communication Temptations are something to consider as well. http://nooneaskedmebut.com/toys-tips-communicate-nonverbal-redbox/
      I hope that helps!

  2. […] I was thinking about this week’s post and also thinking about how many things I need to get done!  Raise your hand if you can relate!  When I started this blogging journey I really had not a clue.  My initial thought was a monthly post.  But then I thought, if the blog was going to take off then the posts needed to be shared regulary.  My best friend keeps telling me she needs to catch up on my posts too.  That being said, I thought it would be fun to collect a couple of my topic posts from the past 7 months and put those posts into one just as I did for the 12 Days of Toys to Encourage Language.  […]
